The End of the World

The year 2000. It means different things to different people -- the end of a decade, the end of a millennium, the final sad confirmation that Space: 1999 will never come true. But the most pressing concern people have about the coming of the year 2000 has to be: will the world end in the year 2000?

I can only think of one reason why it would. Maybe God has wanted to destroy the world for a long time now, but He wants to see the numbers turn over first. It's kind of like how you might take an extra trip around the block so you can be the one driving the car when the odometer goes from all nines to all zeroes.

If the world does end in the year 2000, what time will it end? At midnight, New Year's Eve? Midnight in what time zone? Will Newfoundland end half an hour later than the rest of Canada?

If it was up to me, I'd end the world...
