Psycho

PHYSIO!Almost forty years after it came out, Psycho remains a classic; possibly the finest film of all time with a silent "P" in the title. With it, Alfred Hitchcock invented the modern thriller, and perhaps more importantly, the gratuitous bra shot.

Anthony Perkins is brilliant as Norman Bates. Janet Leigh is terrific as a woman wearing a bra who's wearing a bra and her bra is showing and then she gets stabbed. Also, there's a guy in a hat who falls down some stairs.

Yes, it's a classic, and now it's been remade. Actually, the new version isn't really a remake; it's more of a clone. An exact duplicate. The film makers have used the same script and production schedule to make an exact copy of the movie, line-for-line, shot-for-shot.

Why you'd want to do this is anybody's guess. I suppose it's a nice break from working. I know I'd like to be able to print somebody else's writing in a different font and still get paid. Maybe I could even do a book: Paul Mather's Dave Barry's Greatest Hits or whatever.

Probably Gus Van Sant, the film maker, can get away with this because...
