More Words for Snow

The Inuit have, like, seventy different words for snow. With the amount of snowfall we've had lately, Edmontonians deserve some extra snow words too. Rather than actually do research, find out what those Inuit snow words are, and present them to you, I've just made up some of my own. This saves me some work, and plus, if you're an Inuit from Edmonton, you now have ninety different snow words with which to amaze and impress your friends.

Snew [snòò] n. snow which is gone. "Snew covered the freshly-shoveled walks." Synonym: Snot n. "What's on the walks? It was snow; now it's snot."

Plowake [plow'àk] n. three-foot high, block-long ridges of snow left by a snowplow on the sides of the road which make it impossible to open your car door or step onto the curb.

Plowpylons [plow'peye'lahns] n. small towers of snow; the result of plowakes intersecting at right angles.

Arkface [ahrk'fàs] n. the half-melted condition of a snowman; reminiscent of the melting Nazis from the climax of Raiders of the Lost Ark.
